Schools told to clarify policy on tuition fees

School management should not make their school purely business-oriented institution. The school should remain under the sway of the academicians, said Dehradun district magistrate Ravinath Raman while presiding over a meeting with school authorities at Collectorate on Saturday. Dehradun was known as a hub of education and all had equal responsibility to maintain the status, he said.

Raman directed the school authorities to clarify their policy on tuition fees, admission fees, among others and maintain transparency all through. DM said that that 25 per cent  of the students from the weaker sections of the society should be enrolled under right to education act in all the schools and school authorities should declare its admission date through various media so that beneficiaries are enrolled in the neighbourhood schools under the act.

School officials found indulging in discrimination on the enrolled children under RTE Act will be dealt with stringent law, he warned. He directed the school authorities not to sell text books, stationeries, dresses among others nor they be allowed to compel parents to purchase such materials from particular book stalls or particular places. Actions will be taken against the errant school authorities, he warned.

In consultation with the students’ parents and school management committee members, school can raise tuition fees or admission fees but such information should be provided to the chief education officer on time, he added. The school authorities were directed not to collect donation in the name of change in uniforms, programmes, re-admission, and syllabus among others. School’s registration will be revoked in case they defy these norms, he warned. Dehradun Chief Education officer SP Khali has directed the school authorities to enroll children belonging to weaker section of society under RTE act in their schools.
