The stay ordered by the Supreme Court on acquisition of land by the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) for the Chakrata Road redevelopment plan has buoyed the spirits of the traders opposing this plan.
However, some members of the general public are not sure about the project itself because though the project appears good to them the people are not sure whether the MDDA is capable of executing it effectively or whether this project is suited to the site selected for it.
The Doon Udhyog Vyapar Mandal head Vipin Nagaliya said that though the SC stay has filled the traders with hope.
“Now the resolve of traders opposed to the Chakrata Road redevelopment plan has been strengthened. The stay ordered on the land acquisition has not only boosted our morale to struggle on the issue but has also sent a strong signal to the authorities trying to impose this plan using devious means,” he said.
Resident of Chakrata Road, Prateek Kumar said that the project appeared good on paper but expressed doubt at the expertise of the MDDA to successfully execute this plan.
“Those who were shifted after demolition of shops and residence for the Chakrata Road widening are still not satisfied. So I wonder whether those affected by the redevelopment plan will be treated properly,” he opined.
The wife of a local trader, Sunita Shah said that though the plan may not be bad, it doesn’t seem to be a goodplan to implement on Chakrata Road.
“This road was widened to decongest the traffic bottleneck. On the one hand the MDDA states that it wants to decongest the heart of the city but on the other it wants to implement a plan which is aimed at increasing the traffic on Chakrata Road.
In stead of focusing on the core zone of the city, the authorities should focus on expanding the town,” she added.
