Hailing the Supreme Court order restoring the Congress Government in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday as historic, the Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress chief Kishore Upadhyay opined that the apex court’s decision has restored the faith of the public in the democratic setup and judicial system of the nation.
Reacting to the order of Supreme Court revoking imposition of President’s rule in Arunachal Pradesh, Upadhyay averred that the Congress party has full faith in the constitution of India, the democratic system and the nation’s justice
system. “The Congress party welcomes and respects the supreme court’s landmark order restoring the Congress Government in Arunachal Pradesh. In its historic decision based on the constitution of India, the apex court has made it clear that the step taken by the Bharatiya Janata Party led Central Government was in violation of the Constitution of India. The Congress
party retains full faith in the Vidhan Sabha, Constitution of India and constitutional bodies of the nation. The manner in which the Bharatiya Janata Party has stained and lowered the level of politics in India, will also be taken cognisance of by the people of India in the near future,” said the PCC chief, while also
accusing the BJP of having acted unconstitutionally in its purported attempts to bring down the Governments not only of Arunachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand but also of Odisha, Bihar and Delhi. Targetting the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Upadhyay said that following the recent landmark judgments of the SC, the PM needs to introspect and consider their position from the moral point of view. He further opined that by bringing down democratically elected State Governments, the BJP had attempted to commit the “murder” of democracy. The Supreme Court verdict has “safeguarded” the constitution, democratic system and the dignity of the nation, said the PCC chief. Jubilating after the apex court’s verdict, party members celebrated at the Congress Bhawan in Dehradun with fireworks and distribution of sweets on Wednesday.
