Satisfied as people appreciated my leadership quality, says outgoing DGP Ganapathy

The 1986 batch IPS officer MA Ganapathy demitted his charge as the DGP Uttarakhand Police on Monday to join his new posting as additional DG of CISF. Ganapathy, in his parting address, said that he takes every posting as a period of training and transfer as a passing out parade.

“I am satisfied as the people have appreciated my leadership quality and policing. Nobody can claim to have attained perfection in the art of policing. Those who are to lead the police must have the ability to take prompt decisions. They must have knowledge to back their actions. Besides, they must act impartially. They must be storehouses of inexhaustible energy and dynamism till the end of their stints in the force,” he said.

Ganapathy regretted the fact that most of the police officers are focused more on building their own images and less on building a collective image of the force. “However, the fact is that such personal image painstakingly built over the years gets tarnished in a moment’s folly,” he warned. He said that he had learned a lot while working as a police officer on central deputation in CBI and Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

“The learning process would continue now as there is a lot more to learn,” he said. He dwelt on the   reforms he had introduced in the police department here during his stint as the DGP to turn the force more professional. “I have achieved a bit and I hope that the momentum would continue in the coming years,” he said.

Ganapahty said that Haridwar, Pauri and Nainital were the places he used to frequent as he was fond of them. “I am enamoured of mango and litchi,” he said. Among the police officers present during the farewell were the additional director general of police (administration) Ashok Kumar, ADGP (law and order) Ram Singh Meena and IG (administration) GS Martolia. They spoke appreciatively of the works done by Ganapathy for the betterment of police department and the welfare of the police personnel.
