Uttarakhand Governor KK Paul laid the foundation stone for the  building and stadium of Sanskrit Sansthan at  Raghunath Keerti  Adarsh Sanskrit Mahavidyalaya  campus at Devprayag on Saturday. Addressing the gathering, he said that in the coming years, this institution at Devprayag will have great significance becoming another identity of the revered place.

The institute will become the most effective medium for Sanskrit  education and propagation of Sanskrit in Devbhumi Uttarakhand.  It will help in making the youth skilled in the language and check migration from the hills, he said.

He said that Sanskrit was the root language of Indian civilization and had been a part of it for the past two thousand years. All our ancient literature and scriptures are in Sanskrit, he mentioned. Sanskrit had a special place in the Indian Constitution. According to  Article 345 of the Constitution, Uttarakhand had accepted Sanskrit as its second official language, he said, adding “The relationship between Uttarakhand and Sanskrit is age-old and has now acquired a constitutional complexion. ”

He told the Sanskrit students that in this era of globalization, while there has been great benefit due to global exchange of knowledge through information technology and TV, our basic values had become weaker. He said that along with technical skills and knowledge of technology, the youth must be strongly rooted  in our Indian values and principles. “Studying Sanskrit will help greatly in this direction as it will help students go into the depth of ancient texts and acquire knowledge of our civilization.”

He further stressed  on the Sanskrit institute making efforts to attract the common man as well as school/college students towards Sanskrit. Sanskrit literature should be translated into other languages too, he said.
