Continuing their strike on the fifth day in Dehradun, the sanitation workers also marched toward secretariat in the support of their demands on Friday. Though the authorities claimed to have made alternate arrangements, the garbage is piling up in public places and roadsides with the warning to impose no work, no pay principle having little effect on the striking workers.
Speaking on the matter the Akhil Bharatiya Safai Mazdoor Sangh (ABSMS) branch general secretary Dheeraj Bharti said, “The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has tried to threaten us by giving the order of ‘no work, no pay’ but that will not stop us from continuing the strike till our demands are met. We will not surrender to force or hollow promises”
Regarding the alternate arrangements made by MCD he averred that the protesting union members were not scared of the police. He said, “We have our members in different parts of the city who will work to stop such temporary arrangements made by MCD.” The protesting union members also rallied towards the secretariat in support of their demands for regularisation and hiked wages.
This correspondent attempted to contact the officials concerned regarding status of the sanitation arrangements but got no response.
