Ruby's lawyer to file bail plea today

Published on:

With things seemingly vegetating on the Ruby Choudhary case for days, Defence lawyer Rajiv Raturi alleged that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has not recovered any concrete evidence against his client despite over a month having passed since she was booked and arrested. “I would file a bail petition for her in the court on Wednesday when the case would be heard there,” he said.  He further alleged that the previous investigator had been removed on purpose to delay things. “Now it is said the new investigating officer would take time to acquaint herself with the nitty-gritty of the case. It seems police develop cold feet whenever they are confronted with the event of arresting the senior academy officials,” the lawyer said. Tearing further into police, Raturi said he is wondering as to why they are dragging their feet to take things forward to their logical conclusion. “This is surprising, given the fact that they boasted having completed the process of evidence-gathering may days ago,” he said.

Notably, the court that heard the case on April 30 extended Ruby’s judicial remand by 14 days.

Observers opined that there is something inexplicable with police maintaining a stony silence on the sensational case.

“The senior police officer earlier had bragged that the mystery would be unraveled in a couple of days. They also had claimed that the academy higher ups are under their scanner and they would be arrested soon to lift the veil of their complicity in the matter. But things remaining stuck where they were when they arrested Ruby amount to a riddle within the wheels of riddle,” an observer said, adding the defence lawyer’s argument that police have failed to collect concrete evidences against Ruby stands to reason.

Sources said that SIT has enough of clues indicating involvement of academy officers in facilitating Ruby’s entry and stay in the campus aside from her attending the photo session along with the President Pranab Mukherjee.

It is also learnt from sources that as per some recovered

evidences, a plan was there to push Ruby in the place of an IAS officer from Moradabad who had not attended training at lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration due to some reasons.

However, now he who has qualified the civil service examination is now attending the classes in the academy. This happened after the matter came into national focus. Sources revealed that Ruby had his mobile number.  Things are being probed as to how she had managed to get his number.

It should be mentioned here that  the Academy security officer Satyaveer Singh had registered a case under Sections 420/467/468/471 of the IPC against Choudhary in the Mussoorie Police Station on April 2 evening. Ruby was arrested on April 3 night on the charge of clandestinely staying in the Academy premises for around seven months while posing as an IAS probationer.
