RTO stir gives harrowing time to applicants

People visiting the Regional Transport Office (RTO) of Dehradun had a vexing time on Tuesday as they found the office locked down by the agitating employees.

The work in other offices of the transport department in the State was also hindered by the agitation. The Ministerial employees of the Uttarakhand transport department forced the closure of the office. These employees are agitated over the inordinate delay in the promotions.

The district President of the association, YS Bisht told The Pioneer that the department is sitting over the file of promotions of Senior Assistants to Passenger Tax Officers from many years now. He said that repeated pleas of the association on the issue have fallen on deaf years so the Ministerial employees had no option but to observe a day’s strike. The association has about 450 members.

The strike brought the work of the RTO office in state capital to a grinding halt causing problems to the large number of visitors.
