RTO planning to outsource private officials

Published on:

Owing to the acute staff shortage at Regional Transport Office (RTO), Dehradun, officials are planning to outsource private companies to expedite the work here at the department.

ARTO (Administration), Sandeep Saini said that, the decision of outsourcing the employees at RTO was not the decision of the RTO officials. This was the State Government’s decision and the department officials can’t do any modification in the instruction issued by the Government, he added.

He also stated that recently after the protest of the RTO employees a scheduled meeting for the dealer point registration process was cancelled and the department would rethink on it.

Meanwhile, Senior Assistant at RTO, Shailendra Bisht informed that, the administration’s move to privatise the Government department is a discouraging one.

Instead of recruiting new officials at RTO, administration is approaching private agencies and dealer for most of the vehicles registration related work of the department.

He also stated that earlier when the registration works of the vehicles or number plate registration was done by the department officials it hardly took any time but now the customers have to visit number of windows just for a registration work and wait for many days for their works to be completed. He also stated that this privatisation would hamper around 3-4 post of all the 18 offices of the department.

Senior Administrative Officer at RTO, Jitendra Thakur, said that RTO is suffering from acute staff shortage.

He stated that only 24 data entry operators are currently working here at RTO while the total required number is 85. Around 70 post of senior assistant and various posts of junior assistant are also lying vacant at RTO department, he stated. Ironically these posts are lying vacant from last one year and nothing has been done to redress the problem.
