RTA meeting postponed yet again

Published on:

The Regional Transport Authority (RTA) has postponed its proposed meeting yet again. This meeting was slated to be held on December 16.

It is important to mention here that Dehradun regional transport officer Dinesh Chandra Pathoi had earlier said that as per orders of National Green Tribunal (NGT) they will be discussing the actions to be taken in order to tackle deteriorating air quality in Dehradun.

According to the officials, the meeting has been postponed as Panchayat elections in few areas have still not been conducted.  The meeting will be organised after  elections are completed. It is pertinent to mention here that Pathoi had earlier cleared the air on  rumours about RTA planning to ban use of commercial vehicles 10 or more years older.

He had said no such decision could have been taken as the RTA meeting had not been held. The transport unions including city bus and Vikram unions however have maintained that only commercial vehicles cannot be blamed for  increasing air pollution in  region.
