Rs1,509 cr missing from State's financial records'

Reacting to the RTI report that said Rs1,509 crore had gone missing from the State’s financial records, leader of the Opposition Ajay Bhatt said on Friday that the disclosure had  buttressed their charge that an incredibly large sum of funds had been siphoned off by those running the Government.

“Things are  grim. That funds sent to State from other parts of the country and abroad to provide succor to the victims of the great deluge  have been embezzled is a indelible blemish on the   face of the State,” he said, adding that nothing short of a CBI probe  can unravel the mystery. He also demanded the State government to quit, owning responsibility for the mystery of the missing funds.

“We are convinced that those running the government and their near ones have spirited such funds away  under the garb of   fake societies, If the things that have come up thanks the RTI were proven true the people within and abroad would desist from helping the State if such catastrophe recurs,” he said.

He further said that if CBI probes the matter comprehensively those  government officers who had gorged on mutton and chicken during the disaster days would go behind the bar.

“If they still refrain from recommending CBI inquiry it would prove  that they have no shame left in them,” he said.

Tearing further  into the State government, Bhatt said that the State has been passing through a serious financial crisis with  the funds expected through liquor scam and land scam having not poured in the coffer.
