The joy of students of then College of Engineering Roorkee knew no bounds after their team was selected as winners in the country-wide car design competition held in Chandigarh. On reaching Roorkee, they shared the success tips with other students.
Speaking to The Pioneer, one of the jubilant students from mechanical engineering Ritesh Gupta said, “Our team under the name Zephyr won first prize at the national level test car designing competition being organised by TATA motors and UIET Chandigarh. It was a tough competition wherein the teams had to undergo various automobile tests like brake test, ‘Go no go test’, endurance test and many other static and dynamic tests.”
Notably in this national level competition, 36 innovative four-wheeler test vehicles from all over the country had participated and the students of COER emerged as the overall winner of the competition. The test vehicle made by the young engineers of the college could pass all the tests and inspections carried out by the automobile experts from different automobile industries.
Assistant professor Thomas Mathew under whom the team had worked told The Pioneer, “It was a team work by mechanical and electrical students. I am glad that the students could pass all the tests and came out as winner.”
Chairman of COER J C Jain said, “Innovations are a part of student life which give them an outstanding position. We can only fund the project, but it is the hard work of the students and their talent which brings them accolades. The project was funded by the COER management and the entire vehicle was fabricated in the college workshop by the fourth year mechanical and electrical engineering students”.
The mechanical team included Ritesh Gupta, Nitin Dua, Sumit Suman, Prashant Binwal, Utkarsh Kasera and Shubham Tyagi while the electrical parts of the vehicle were designed and fitted by the electrical engineering students Kumar Pushpak and Ankit Raj.
