Roorkee police claimed to have busted a notorious gang of robbers allegedly involved in a string of robberies committed in the Manglaur area of Haridwar district aside from some places in Uttar Pradesh. During a joint operation by CIU and Gangneher police station, four of the alleged robbers were nabbed near Nehar Pul in Manglaur area on Tuesday. However, the leader of the gang is still absconding, police said, adding that a manhunt is on to nab him too. Two unlicensed firearms, four live ammunitions and Rs 24,500 in cash aside from some items supposedly stolen from various stores have been recovered from the accused, police informed. It is further learnt from police that the gang was involved in several robberies committed in Ghaziabad and Yamunanagar areas as well.
Revealing the case, SSP Krishna Kumar V K said, “The accused identified as Pankaj Sharma and Alam who have been arrested today have admitted during interrogation that two others Rishabh and Shankar Sharma had been involved in the robberies committed by the gang. “Besides, as per the revelations, Dhirendra Usmani who was involved in the murder of one in Roorkee is another active member of the gang. The gang leader is Gaurav Sharma who is now on the run,” SSP added.
Notably, the gang members had allegedly shot dead a salesman at a foreign liquor shop in Udalhedi village in Manglaur on April 26. Earlier, on April 7, a fuel pump had been looted. On March 11, a salesman had been allegedly shot dead by the gang members at a shop before the shop was looted. last year, two salesmen had been shot dead prior to the robbery of the showrooms they were working in.
Police further said that Shankar and Gaurav had together committed robbery at some medical stores located in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh as well.
SSP said that police are on the lookout for Gaurav, the gang leader, who is now on the run. “All the police stations have been alerted. Gaurav would be arrested soon,” he added.
