In connection with SBI’s ATM loot case amounting to around Rs37 lakh cash, reported in Gangnahar police station area in Roorkee, Haridwar on Sunday evening, two accused who were arrested have been sent to Roorkee sub-jail after being presented in the court on Monday. However, the district police are still clueless about mastermind of cash loot case involving five SBI ATMs located between Malviya Chowk and Ramnagar area, Roorkee on Sunday evening. Some miscreants decamped with money after decoding the codes of the ATM machines. Notably, visitors at ATM got suspicious after four youths were found wandering near an ATM counter at Ramnagar Shivchowk. Suspicion deepened after they were found withdrawing large sums. Police were informed. Police succeeded to arrest two of the youths with cash while the other two fled, carrying the rest of the cash in a bag. Police recovered around Rs4.10 lakhs from the arrested duo. Immediately, police informed the bank officials and the engineers and SBI ATM service was stopped in the nearby areas for an indefinite period of time.

Kuldeep Aswal, CO Roorkee, said that arrested duo has been identified as Safeeq Ali of Banda, UP and Shahnawaz of New Delhi. Both were aged between 26 and 28 years. Their previous criminal backgrounds are, however, yet to be confirmed from their respective native police stations. A case under Sections 379/411/420 of IPC and Sections 43/65/66 of IT Act has been registered against both the accused and some other persons in Gangnahar police station.

CO Aswal added that it has become clear from the primary investigation that an organised gang was involved in the strings of loots.

SP Rural Parmender Singh Dobhal informed The Pioneer that interrogation of the duo has revealed that Amit from Delhi is the kingpin. SP Dobhal further informed that as per the details provided by the bank officials, total cash withdrawn from ATM machine is about Rs37 lakhs. Probe is on, he said.
