lying on the back burner for some time, the Roorkee-Deoband special rail route project has finally been accorded approval. On Thursday, the Union Cabinet secretary PK Sinha chaired a meeting in which the 27-kilometre long special railway track was granted approval.
Chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had earlier asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take a decision on this project. Completion of this project will decrease the rail travel time between Dehradun and Delhi by two hours. This track will also help in the Char Dham pilgrimage.
The high-level meeting chaired by Sinha was attended by various senior officials with Chief Secretary S Ramaswamy representing Uttarakhand.
