low wages, irregular duty hours and laxity in maintenance of fleet of the State Roadways appeared to be the common problems of all the roadways employees who congregated at a one-day convention at the ISBT on Sunday. One of the drivers working as an outsourced employee, Vikas Saini, told The Pioneer that the drivers receive only Rs1.20 per km which is very less and it should be increased to at least Rs2 per km.

He said that most of the drivers tend to work for more than stipulated hours to earn extra money. Kuldeep Singh, a driver posted in the Rudrapur depot said that due to paucity of funds the fleet of roadways is in bad condition. He revealed that as per the rules, the buses should be serviced after every 1,800 kms but the buses of roadways are serviced after 5,000 km which jeopardize the lefe. Manish Kumar, a conductor, said the facility of overtime should be given to the conductors too.
