In a major relief to the general public, the agitating Uttaranchal Roadways Karmchari Union (URKU) has decided to suspend its proposed strike from Tuesday after an assurance from management of the Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC).

Before the decision of suspension of the strike by the URKU, hectic parleys were held between the office bearers of the association and the transport corporation management. The general manager operations of the UTC, Deepak Jain told the association that since the Managing Director (MD) of the corporation has been transferred recently and new MD has not taken up the charge yet, the employees should take back their call.

He added that since the secretary transport is also on leave, the proposed high level meeting to resolve the issues of the employees has not been called. Jain however assured that the said meeting would be held on or before July 4.

He claimed that official process to meet many demands of the employees is at present going on. On the assurance of the GM, the URKU suspended its proposed strike plan. Meanwhile the UKRU filed a writ petition in Uttarakhand High Court  on the day in which the UTC management has been made a party for pending salaries, same work same pay and regularisation.

The petition will be taken up for hearing on Tuesday.  The general secretary of the URKU, Ashok Chaudhary said that the in view of the proposed high level meeting and the fact that the HC is taking up the issue on Tuesday, the proposed work boycott from Tuesday is suspended.
