The situation is yet to return to normalcy a couple of days after heavy rain and flash flood wreaked disaster in Pasar and Manjiyadi areas of Narendranagar block of Tehri district on Saturday.

All the bridle paths in these disaster affected areas have been damaged forcing villagers to risk their lives taking precarious routes for essential works. With the irrigated farms and standing crop being buried under debris, the affected villagers are also anxious about their livelihood and hardships they might face in the future.

With the bridle paths, irrigated farm lands and canals destroyed in the villages, those living in these disaster affected villages appear to be facing a mound of challenges which appears to be fluctuating. With irrigated lands in Pasar being buried in debris some of the villagers are now finding it hard to even secure two square meals a day.

The five villagers whose homes were buried by debris are facing problems trying to secure shelter. Villagers point out that potato, beans and various other unseasonal vegetables had grown and ready for harvest but all was destroyed in the weekend disaster. The raging Pasar stream fed by rainwater had also destroyed all the bridle paths used by the villagers.

Due to this, the villagers are forced to take precarious means in order to move from one place to another. Damage to the natural sources of water and water pipelines laid by the department has created a major problem for the villagers in need of regular supply of adequate clean drinking water.

Some of the disaster affected villagers Bachni Devi, Jabar Singh and Jot Singh stated that their sole means of livelihood-their farms, were swept away in the disaster. With their homes buried by debris, they are facing problems while trying to find secure shelter for the night. They can’t access essential food stuffs which remain out of reach in their  buried homes while water supply has also been disrupted. Distraught, the villagers question as to when will the authorities come to their aid.
