Although the Peyjal Nigam’s plan to lay sewer lines in the areas bereft of this facility in Dehradun under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) scheme seems to be pacing up, the commuters and the residents of the crowded Macchi Bazaar opine otherwise.
“Tasks like these should begin in the night and must be completed till the morning. The authorities must consider at least once the time duration in which the work will be completed and plan accordingly so that it does not become a hindrance in our daily tasks,” said a shopkeeper, Rajeev Agarwal. Traffic has been disrupted on the already crowded road of Macchi Bazaar because of the excavation.
A resident Mahesh Lal complained that it was already difficult to make way from this road and now due to excavation, it has become even more arduous to drive vehicles from here. “We don’t even have a choice to take another road as our house is just in the opposite lane where they have dug up the road,” he added. A group of shopkeepers complained about the everyday traffic issue. According to many of them it has become even worse after the Peyjal Nigam dug up the road. “It’s been more than three days since they have excavated the road. All we have seen is the excavation, no work is being done to lay the sewer lines for which the road was dug,” said Ashish Sharma, a local resident.
“It has now become even worse with the occurrence of rainfall. We hope it will be fixed soon,” he added. When asked about the problem the deputy municipal commissioner Rohitash Sharma said, a letter would be written to the Peyjal Nigam to complete the task as soon as possible. “We will request the Peyjal Nigam to lay the sewer lines without taking much time to avoid any accident or mishap.”
Sharma informed that Peyjal Nigam has covered many areas in the city to lay sewer lines and now has undertaken the task to lay the lines in the areas where this task is remaining.
