Police arrested scores of laboratory assistants/ office assistants of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), when they staged a protest outside the State BJP office on Tuesday. The members of the association assembled at the agitation site near parade ground in the morning and then marched towards the State BJP office. They engaged in slogan shouting outside the BJP office.  Addressing the workers, the State president of the association Vivek Bhatt said that 1863 RMSA workers lost their jobs as the Union Government stopped funding their salaries. He said that the BJP-led NDA Government has not provided the pending funds too due to which salaries of six months are not paid to the workers. Bhatt said that hundreds of RMSA workers and their families are agitated at the fact that the state BJP leaders have not advocated for their cause before the central leaders.
The RMSA workers were prevented by the police from entering the office on which a minor scuffle broke out. The police arrested the workers and later released them. These workers were employed in the state education department under RMSA on contract. The contract of these workers was not renewed by the state government as the Union Government has stopped funding their salaries. The agitated workers now demand that the State Government should renew their contract and are staging a sit in at the protest site for last 113 days.
The assurance of Chief Minister Harish Rawat to provide them extra marks in the permanent recruitment drive too is failing to placate the agitated workers.
