While heaping praise on the launch of the long-delayed initiative to rejuvenate the dying Rispana, those who have long been in the van of the river rejuvenation movement cast doubt on the sincerity of the administration in executing the CM’s dream project. Citing the large- scale distribution of saplings by the district administration under Rispana rejuvenation drive over the past two days, they said that the move is being reduced to a mere a public relation exercise with the real purpose behind the drive being shoved to the backburner. Over the past two days, the students of all the schools based in Dehradun have been provided with saplings which they are supposed to plant on Sunday. Intriguingly, the students have been given no instruction as to where they are supposed to plant the saplings provided to them. “My daughter took two saplings to home from her school. Since we live in a flat on a multi-storey building, I am wondering where these saplings are to be planted. I am aware of the plantation drive along the Rispana river but the school management has not cared to tell us anything about it,’’ said Suman Sharma, a resident of Dalanwala. Furthermore, the district administration has distributed cards pertaining to the Rispana rejuvenation drive along with the saplings to the students. But they have not been told about the purpose behind the distribution. It clearly shows that the administration under pressure to dispose of 2.5 lakh saplings brought for the drive has distributed them in the schools without making any attempt to ensure that they are planted at the places they are meant for, said an observer.
