Uttarakhand Meteorological Centre has forecast cloudy sky for three days from January 1 while saying that the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around the normal during the next five days from Tuesday.
For the coming few days, the people would get respite from the cold wave conditions that kept on sweeping across the State with the mercury now rising up, said Met director Bikram Singh on Tuesday.
Anuradha, resident of Defence Colony, said that the morning has turned a tad less cold on Tuesday as compared to the previous days. "The noon is the same to the relief of the elderly and the children. However, we know that this is short-lived respite as rains would occur in a few days to bring back the freezing cold," she said.
Singh further said the maximum and minimum temperatures had slightly risen on Tuesday as compared to the previous few days. The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 25.5 degree Celsius and 7.2 degree Celsius in Dehradun while 19.0 degree Celsius and 7.4 degree Celsius in Tehri, 12.0 degree Celsius and 6.4 degree Celsius in Mukteshwar and 21.6 degree Celsius and 4.6 degree Celsius in Pantnagar on Tuesday.
The weather forecast for Uttarakhand on Wednesday is generally dry weather. Shallow fog/mist may occur at a few places in the plains. The weather forecast for Dehradun on Wednesday is mainly clear sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be hovering around 24 degree Celsius and 06 degree Celsius respectively in Dehradun on Wednesday, he added.
According to the weathermen, things would turn chilling again in the first week of January next with rains likely to occur in both plains and the hills across the state. This would cause the mercury dip sufficiently to facilitate snowfall in the hills.
