Strange but true that the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights chairperson Kushal Singh was unable to disclose the tentative number of missing children in the recent disaster.
later, she said that she came here only to express solidarity with the disaster affected people. It seems that she along with her team came here as a part of disaster tourism.
Coming to Singh's rescue, Principal Secretary (finance) Radha Raturi, who was sitting along with her, said that around 800 children are missing since cloudburst on June 16-17. "To check child trafficking, we have adopted several measures with the help of police and also conducted counseling of rescued women and children to ease them from trauma. As per the available data, around 33,000 families in 336 villages of five districts are trapped so we are using all resource to provide them rations," said Raturi.
A total of 11,900 families are stuck in 45 villages of Rudraprayag district, 10,103 families stuck in 191 villages of Pithoragarh, 6,757 families in 63 villages in Chamoli district, 3,657 families in 32 villages of Uttarkashi district and around 200 families in five villages of Bageshwar district, Raturi added.
