A delegation of Congress members led by Pradesh Congress Committee president Kishore Upadhyay called on the Governor KK Paul and submitted a memorandum addressed to the President against the suspension of 25 MPs of the Congress from the lok Sabha. The PCC has demanded in the memorandum that the suspension of the Congress MPs be revoked.
In their memorandum, the Congress leaders have stated that the 25 MPs of the party had been suspended in an undemocratic manner. Strongly condemning the suspension the PCC stated that the Central Government had attacked the democratic standards by suspending Congress MPs who were fulfilling their obligation to the voters by warning the Government on issues.
The Congress leaders stated, "The suspension is a sign of the BJP's dictatorial character which will not be tolerated by any political party with faith in democracy. Preventing elected representatives from doing their work is a crime against democracy. listening to and acknowledging voices of disagreement are signs of a healthy democracy."
The PCC also alleged that when the BJP was in power in Uttarakhand in the past, it had exercised a 'dictatorial' attitude towards members of the opposition. One MlA agitating on issues of public importance had also been manhandled then, averred the Congress leaders.
The Congress leaders said that the suspension of the Congress MPs from the lok Sabha would prove to be the first nail in the coffin of the BJP. This action has not sent a good message to the world with even some senior BJP leaders refraining from commending the lok Sabha speaker and Prime Minister for the suspension.
The PM and speaker should apologise to the suspended MPs and revoke the suspension, stressed the PCC.
