Revenue police being strangled every bit, says Congress MlA

Uttarakhand Police claim that with revenue police-which covers around 60 percent of the Uttarakhand’s territory- having failed to execute police work in these areas policing should better be transferred to regular police. However, in reality, the State Government is intentionally strangling them bit by bit. During Question Hour, Congress MlA lalit Farswan raised the matter to immense embarrassment of the Treasury Bench.
He asked  how many posts of Tehsildar and Naib Tehsildar are lying vacant presently. Even the commissioner’s power to effect promotion for both these posts has been withdrawn.Replying to the query, Revenue Minister Yashpal Arya informed that the commissioner’s power  on the matter has been withdrawn because of litigation. Those who have not been promoted thus have moved court. In place of commissioner, we have empowered Revenue Council to constitute a committee. The committee  has  been  promoting officials on adhoc basis.
The ruling party MlA raised many questions.  When Public service Commission had last recruited people  for both the postsIJ When revenue department had sent requisition against the vacant posts to the Public Service CommissionIJ In reply, the minister said that  posts of 112 out of 132 Tehsildars and 87 out of 102 naib tehsildars are  now lying vacant. The departmental promotion committee (DPC) meeting that was supposed to be held on March 17 could not be held  due to ongoing Vidhan Sabha session.
As far as recruitment through PSC is concerned 59 posts requisition was sent to PSC and their recruitment process is in progress.
last time, PSC had recruited in 2007, Arya said. As far as Patwari and lekhpal posts are concerned 303 Patwaris are serving and 406 lekhpal are working in the state. Currently, 78 Patwari posts are lying vacant.  Then the Opposition said the Government should be ashamed of itself for doing away with revenue police-a tradition which the State enjoys for ages- by slow degrees.
