A vigilance team has arrested Vikasnagar revenue inspector (Kanungo) Girdhari lal, native of Deoria (Uttar Pradesh), on Saturday on charge of accepting a bribe of `25,000 from a complainant. Girdhari lal had sought the bribe from the complainant against measuring 0.1860 hectare land located at Mauja, Hope Town, Vikasnagar.

In his written complaint lodged with the vigilance Dehradun sector, the complainant stated that he was having a portion of land (0.1860 hectare) in his wife’s name in Vikasnagar. The boundary of the lands was not demarcated well. In order to draw drawing of her land, his wife had approached Vikasnagar SDM over measurement of her land on May 5, 2016, the complainant said.

SDM has directed Vikasnagar Tehsildar to take measures over the issue. Then Tehsidar forwarded the issue to Nayab Tehsildar. Nayab Tehsildar on his part directed revenue inspector (Kanungo) Girdhari lal to measure the land after conducting inspection. When the complainant approached Girdhari lal he said that things would be done only if he agreed to part with `60,000 the work.

He had approached Girdhari lal several times to get the works done, he said, adding that he was intentionally sitting over it. The complainant said he had met with Girdhari lal again on June 23 and requested to complete the work.

Girdhari lal had sought `50,000 against works to be done. The complainant requested to reduce the amount but he refused to do so. Finally, it was fixed at `50,000 with the assurance that the payment would be made in equal installment and the first would have to be paid before the work started.  Girdhari lal had called him in his office, Selaqui with `25,000 in cash on June 25.

The complainant had meanwhile approached Pramod Kumar, additional SP, Dehradun sector vigilance and registered a compliant over the same issue.

Acting on the complaint, a team led by vigilance inspector was formed. Two independent witnesses were also included in it. The vigilance team members drafted a plan to trap them. Girdhari lal was caught red- handed while taking `25, 000 as bribe from the complainant at his office located at Selaqui on Saturday in the presence of two independent witnesses.
