Resurgent NSUI faces DAV test in student union elections

Published on:

After two back to back wins in the MKP and SGRR PG College here the National Students Union of India (NSUI) seems to be on an upswing but its real test would be at, the DAV PG College. The Akhil Bhartiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has made DAV PG College which is the biggest college of the State as its invincible fortress as its candidates have won the coveted post of the President of this college from last ten years.

Different student organisations are working in frantic pace these days to conquer the prestigious student union elections of DAV College here.

The process of elections in the college has started and the elections would be held on August 31.

All the political organisations of students worth their salt would swear that the election of the college which is the biggest college of the State is a litmus test of their grip over the students.

The BJP’s student wing, ABVP has virtually made this college as its pocket borough as its candidates have secured consecutive ten victories.

This time ABVP has fielded Shubham Simalti as its candidate for the post of President while NSUI has put its faith on Vikas Negi.

It is learnt that both the parties can face challenge from the rebel candidates with Saurabh Mamagain of NSUI already declaring his intention to fight the

elections.

The victories in SGRR PG College and MKP PG College have emboldened the NSUI cadre and its leaders are leaving no stone unturned to break 10 year old jinx in the DAV PG College this time.

The last time the NSUI was able to capture this college was in the year 2006-7 when its candidate Sangram Singh Pundeer defeated Jitendra Rawat of ABVP to became President.

However, ever since Jitendra Rawat defeated Manvendra Pratap Singh Bisht of NSUI next year to win the seat for ABVP it is a long and agonising wait for the NSUI.

One of an independent observer commented that since NSUI this year has a natural advantage this year due to victories in MKP and SGRR colleges and its candidate Vikas Negi is also a formidable one however NSUI is a divided house as compared with ABVP it would be very difficult for it to win elections unless it presents a united front.
