While running for ‘good governance’ on Tuesday along with a host of senior IAS officers, Chief Secretary Utpal Kumar Singh, who assumed the top bureaucratic post of the State a few days ago, said that they would leave no stone unturned to free the State from the cancers of corruption.
“We are resolved to ensure complete transparency in governance while facilitating a perfect delivery of service to the people. We would not brook corruption and it would be eliminated with a heavy hand. These combined together is what is meant by good governance,” he said.
Quizzed over his experiences during his interaction with the students of a state-run school in Dehradun, he said that he was struck by the positive outlook the students emanated. “They are fully aware of what is happening around them. They are positive, optimistic and forward- looking,” he said.
He further said that some steps are required to be taken to enhance the educational standard of the schools of the State. “Teachers would be given training from time to time,” he added.
Asked to comment on the acute teacher crunch plaguing many of the schools, especially those located in the mountainous parts of the State, he said that things are a bit queer now.
“While the schools in the hills are reeling under teacher shortage those in the plains have more teachers than are sanctioned. The anomaly must be rectified. We are looking into it and the number of teachers would be according to the sanctioned strength in every school of the State,” the Chief Secretary said.
