Residents witness long power cuts following rains

Published on:

Following the incessant rains which were experienced in the capital city, several localities witnessed power outage since Tuesday morning. However, department officials told that the linemen and mobile team immediately went off to remove the technical snags at substation level.

Residents in the city are facing problems because of increased unscheduled

rostering that is mostly done in day hours. Adding to their woes is very low voltage of power that makes it difficult to use even basic home appliances without a stabiliser.

The problem has been persisting in the city for past few weeks as intermittent rostering that is unscheduled is done. Apart from this during night the supply is disrupted for few hours due to the overloading. Now the better weather

condition is something that the department are counting on to improve the situation especially because there is no change in the scenario of power generation.

The city continues to face rostering even when the demand for power has gone down considerably.

The city is witnessing three to four hours of rostering

each day. Apart from rostering, faults in transformers and power cables further compound the situation. Over a dozen cases of faults in transformers have been reported in the last

one week.

Apart from the scheduled power cut issued by Uttarakhand Power Corporation limited (UPCl) and PTCUl (Power Transmission Corporation of Uttarakhand limited) for carrying maintenance at lines and transformers or feeders, the duration of power cut has increased from three to five hours in a day.

The roster clearly highlighted that the three hours of power cut was followed at Subhashnagar and Kargi, Ajabpur, Banjarawala, Daudwala, Kargi, Mothorowala, Durga Enclave and adjoining areas on Tuesday and power outage will also continued on Wednesday in Subhashnagar and adjoining areas of the capital city.

The maximum duration of power cut for eight hours will be observed at Transport Nagar, Mohhebewala, Triveni Vihar, Shanti Vihar etc. on Wednesday and Thursday for carrying maintenance for ensuring the round the clock power to the consumers.

It is also equally important to mention here is that the PTCUl line was overloaded after the power generation was stopped at Dharasu hydro power project for two hours and generation was also reported to be affected at Chilla hydro power project in the midnight resulted the additional power outage for four hours in Haridwar district was

observed.

One of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that there is nothing much the department can do about it as the pressure of demand has mounted and the supply of power obviously can not meet these demands as the  power generation in the State run hydro power projects has reduced especially after facing the brunt of the natural calamities.
