Alleging that the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) had consistently failed to meet its official agenda during the 32 years since its formation, residents of the Nehru Colony area staged a protest demonstration demanding that the authority be nullified. Instead of facilitating the planned urban development of Dehradun city as intended, the MDDA with its flawed policies and corrupt intentent encourage illegal constructions and unplanned urbanisations which has severely deteriorated the civic condition and ambiance of Dehradun city, alleged the protesters.

Speaking at the protest gathering held under the banner of  Pratinidhi Sabha, its coordinator Trilok Singh Sajwan alleged that during the 32 years since its incorporation, the MDDA had continued to fail in meeting the targets for which it had been established. He said, “With its consistent failure in fulfilling its task of facilitating planned urban development, the MDDA has now turned into a white elephant for the state of Uttarakhand.  In all these years, the authority which was supposed to develop a well planned town, abetted illegal constructions and also collected money from those undertaking such constructions. There is also a shortage of loal health centres which also plays a role in increasing the patient load on the Doon Hospital (Associated hospital of Government DoonMedical College),” he said. The protesters said that the MDDA be nullified for failing to meet the purpose of its creation and range of urban problems being faced in Dehradun city and its suburbs.
