More concrete steps are still awaited by the department concerned for repairing the potable water pipelines that were badly damaged in the disaster that struck Uttarakhand in the month of June.

All those residents who are living in the sub urban areas and fringe parts of the disaster affected districts are forced to traverse several kilometers to meet their requirement for water. The tall claims made by the department concerned that no stone would be left unturned proved useless as the several areas of the higher parts of the State sill facing the acute shortage of potable water and the situation is equally worst in the fringe parts of the State.

The situation turned worst after these areas faced the brunt of the natural calamities in the month of June.

Facing the callous approach of Peyjal Nigam, residents who are living in the higher parts of the State are facing the acute shortage of potable water.

However, department officials told that the laying of new potable water pipelines and repairing of the damaged potable water pipelines would be done on priority for ensuring the regular supply of potable water.

Well established sources revealed that 664 and 304 potable water pipelines were reported to be partially and completely damaged in the Garhwal and Kumaon divisions respectively after facing the natural calamities that played havoc in the month of June.

One of the department sources who wished anonymity told The Pioneer that department has been struggling hard for repairing the damaged potable water pipelines across the State.

After claiming that all pending projects would be completed in the given time frame for redressing the grievances of villagers, he said that adverse weather condition has been hampering department efforts for repairing the damaged potable water pipelines in the higher parts of the State.
