Residence allocation to police officers to be centralised soon

Taking cognisance of a complaint on irregularities in allocation of Government residences to police personnel, Garhwal Range Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Sanjay Gunjyal has directed the district police heads to develop centralised system in the allocation of Government residences to the police officers in their respective districts.

Besides, he stressed on maintaining transparency in the allocation of such residences. Gunjyal presided over a video conferencing with the range district police heads and reviewed allocation of Government residences to the policemen in districts with them.

In the meeting, it was observed that several policemen were allocated Government residences without following Government norms. Some policemen were allocated Government residences, though they were not listed at the top in the matter of serial allocation.

It was learnt that to procure a Government residence, some policemen had submitted applications approved by the bureaucrats and the political executives in the district office.

Due to lack of transparency in the allocation of Government residences, some policemen had earlier secured Government residences despite their names figuring at the bottom  in the list.

Such acts result in de-motivation among the cops. Moreover, the district police officers are being unnecessarily pressured in regards to allocation of Government residences. The procedure is that the police personnel should be allocated Government residences based on the dates of their appointments and some other factors.

Taking cognisance of the complaint, DIG Gunjyal has directed the district police heads to follow the serial numbers strictly as regards such allocations.  The serial number of policemen who have applied for Government residences should be displayed on the notice board at police line, at all the police posts and police stations .

Centralised system should be developed in such a way that the serial cannot be tampered with and transparency is maintained in the allocation of government residences to the police in the range districts, he added.
