Rescue mission ongoing for missing Hungarian climber

For the search and rescue mission of the Hungarian trekker Peter Wittek (37) who went missing on Trishul mountain, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) tried to take the aerial route with the help of Indian Air Force, but due to extreme weather condition the helicopter could not land at the base camp.

The Chamoli district magistrate Swati Bhadauriya said that the teams from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and SDRF are continuing the mission on foot.

She further added, “Three SDRF personnel tried to drop near the area where the avalanche reportedly hit the missing climber, but the weather conditions up there did not allow it.

We have also requested Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) to provide us help in this expedition.

However as the teams on foot are already ahead and it will take ITBP to reach another two days to catch them, they are right now kept as a backup.”

It is pertinent to mention here that the missing trekker is a member of six member Singaporean-Vietnamese-Hungarian-Mauritian expedition which was planning to climb the Trishul mountain. The rest of the climbers have been reported safe by the district authorities.
