Taking note of the incident of 18 persons, including three children, being admitted at the hospitals following suffocation and burning sensation in the eyes due to leakage of Chlorine gas from the Jal Sansthan premises located on Rajpur Road on late Thursday night, the Garhwal Commissioner Dilip Jawalkar on Saturday directed the Jal Sansthan officers to replace Chlorine gas with Chlorine liquor to avoid recurrence of such incidents in the future. Moreover, the fire service department officers who had rushed to the incident site sought for Chlorine gas protector jacket from the department. “In all, 18 persons, including three children, were admitted in two various hospitals in the city and all of them were released by Saturday,” said SP City PK Rai.
The incident had left the local residents panicky. The victims’ families alleged that the doctors in the associated hospital of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) had not done much for their kin, asking them to admit them at the private hospitals. Some of them had been thus admitted at Mahant Indresh Hospital, Patelnagar, they alleged.
Soon after the incident had been reported Commissioner Jawalkar, DM Murugesan, DIG Garhwal Pushpak Jyoti, SSP Nivdita Kukreti and SP City PK Rai aside from some administrative and police officers had reached the Jal Sansthan campus on Thursday and also on Friday and inspected the area.
