Relief for denizens in upcoming days

The people would be spared the searing summer heat for a few days as the meteorological centre said that the maximum temperature would hover around in the neighbourhood of 34 degree Celsius in Dehradun till April 30. The mercury soared up to 39 degree last week on April 17, the highest in April in five years. However, in April 2009, it surged to 40.8 degree Celsius.

The Met director Bikram Singh said that the all-time maximum temperature in April was recorded as 40.8 in 2009 in Dehradun. In April 2010, 39.2mm rainfall was recorded and the summer was not much scorching. In April 2015, light rain was recorded throughout the month, especially in the hilly parts of the State with the maximum temperature never crossing 34.4 degree Celsius.

Singh said that it would be dry in Uttarakhand on April 26. However, the following day on April 27, it would be  cloudy sky and light rain/thunderstorm is likely at isolated places, especially in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand.

He said western disturbances might bring about the rains, adding that the north- west winds would help the mercury drop a tad in the plain districts. However, the south- west winds would reverse things as they would make the mercury surge by a few notches on April 28 and April 29. Things would be dry in Uttarakhand on April 28 and April 29, Singh said.

In Dehradun, though the temperature is now around the normal traffic was thin during the noon hours on Monday. People are being seen slaking thirst by grabbing cold drinks, sugar cane juice, lassi and others from the roadside shops at various places in the city.

Sarita Bisht, who was found coming out of an institute at Karanpur, said, “I carry water in my bag and take water at regular intervals. Moreover, sometime I have sugar cane juice to beat the heat.”
