Registration of FIRs: Garhwal SHOs to be made accountable

Published on:

Police Station in-charge would be made responsible if FIR is not lodged after a complaint is registered in the police station concerned. Garhwal Range IG Sanjay Kumar Gunjyal held a video conferencing with the range district police officers on Thursday and directed them to take measures to check crimes and maintain law and order in their jurisdictional limits.

IG Gunjyal said that monsoon drawing nearer, the district police officers should ensure that pilgrims reaching Uttarakhand do not face any problem when it rains. They need to plug the loopholes lurking on the way of pilgrimage at the earliest, he stressed. SMSs on weather update and current road conditions on char dham yatra routes should be sent to the pilgrims who are registered through biometric, he said.

Taking a serious view of police sitting on FIRs, IG Gunjyal said that they would not tolerate the police station in-charges and police post in-charges suppressing complaints received from the complainants. He cited instances of the complainants approaching senior police officers to register FIR on theft, burglary and crimes after the police station officials choose to sit on them.

The district senior police officers were directed to ensure that complaints received at police station are reported, investigated and acted upon.

He directed Garhwal range district police heads to form a committee comprising senior police officers of the district to destroy drugs stuffed in police stations which have been recovered from the offenders in a week after seeking permission from the court. This is ensure that the recovered drugs are not misused, he said.

They should submit a report on drugs and narcotics recovered from the police stations and the police posts to his office without delay, he said.
