'Regents clandestinely taken to private labs': GDMC orders inquiry

Published on:

The administration of the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) has started an inquiry on complaints regarding the alleged use of regents of pathology laboratory of the associated hospital by private labs. The principal of the college has appointed a two-member committee comprising of Dr N S Khatri and Dr K C Pant to investigate the charges.

It is alleged that the private laboratories are using the expensive regents- chemicals used in pathologically testing the samples of patients- of the pathology lab of the hospital to test their samples with the connivance of the employees and officers of the hospital lab. It is learnt that some employees of the lab either have their own lab or are associated with some private pathology labs and for financial gains test the samples of private labs in government hospital which not only results in loss to the state exchequer but also affects the pathology service of the government hospital.

The GDMC authorities have also received the complaint that the regents and other expensive chemicals of the GDMC hospital lab are being clandestinely taken to the private labs by the employees of the hospital.

The role of a senior doctor of the pathology lab is also under question in the matter.

The principal of GDMC, Dr Pradip Bharati Gupta said that the matter would be investigated and disciplinary action would be initiated against those found guilty.
