Recruitment for Doon med college on

Published on:

After the approval of 602 academic and other posts for the proposed Doon Medical College by the State Government medical education department of Uttarakhand is gearing up to complete the process of recruitment for these posts before the visit of Medical Council of India’s (MCI) team. The department has requested the MCI to visit the its facilities for giving its nod for the Doon Medical College. The proposed hospital would enroll 150 students in I year MBBS course.

The department is expected to release advertisement for 602 posts soon which includes 117 academic and 172 nursing service posts. Initially the department plans to fill these vacancies on contract basis. It is learnt that the Walk-in interview date for Professors is planned on December 21 while the dates for Associate Professor and Assistant Professor are expected on December 22 and 23 respectively.

The State Government has constituted a committee consisting of Principals of Doon, Haldwani and Srinagar Medical colleges to select the candidates for the positions of Doon Medical College. A Professor from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) would be the fourth member of selection committee.

The Director of Doon Medical College, Dr Ashutosh Syana said that approval for the posts for the medical college is received and soon the process of recruitment would start. It would be interesting to note if the department is able to recruit suitable candidates before the visit of MCI team which could visit the college anytime.

It is worth mentioning that the department faced a tough time to find Principal for the college as two of the selected candidates refused the offer. The department heaved a sigh of relief as Dr Pradeep Bharati joined as Principal last week. Apart from selection of suitable candidates the department is facing a tough time to complete the construction activities for the medical college. The space constraints are forcing the government to construct the academic/ administration and associated 300 bed hospital in different locations of the city. The state government has earmarked a sum of Rs 383 Crores for the proposed Medical College and has hired Uttar Pradesh Nirman Nigam ltd for construction works.  The construction activity is briskly going on at Dehra-Khas (near Mahant Indiresh Hospital) where the administrative and academic buildings are coming up. However the OPD block which is coming at Tehsil Chowk inside the city would take months to get completed. The major problem is being faced in the Doon hospital and Doon women hospital- which constitute associated hospital for the college- due to huge patient load. The officials of the medical education department are of the opinion that the work on the academic and administrative blocks would be completed in time so that admission for I year MBBS course could be given after MCI's nod. It would be interesting to see the reaction of MCI team this time. During the last visit the members of the team had severely reprimanded the officials of medical education department on shoddy preparations for the medical college and wasting their precious time.
