A record 23,530 students have purchased the merit forms for admissions to 4,100 seats available in Under Graduate (UG) courses of DAV College here. The Principal of the college Devendra Bhasin informed that 8000 forms for PG courses have been sold. Incidentally Tuesday was the last date for sale and submission of merit forms for UG courses of the college, which is the biggest college of the state.
The record sale of merit form is set to aggravate things for college management and state government in coming days as thousands of students are set to be deprived of the admissions. The college has only 4100 seats in the UG classes while the number of seats in PG classes is only 1100. It is pertinent to mention here that the Uttarakhand High Court (HC) while hearing a petition of late Daulat Ram Semwal gave a landmark decision last year which imposed a restriction on the number of admissions in the colleges of the state. The colleges are now allowed to give admission to limited number of students only which is based on the infrastructure and faculty at their disposal.
The decision had its implication last year when thousands of students across the state failed to get admissions in the colleges forcing the Government to start concept of evening classes which too failed to address the issue properly.
