Rebel candidates may upset the winning prospect of Congress mayoral candidate Suryakant Dhasmana because he along with Congress party observer Major Ved Prakash and State PCC president Yashpal Arya had been to election office to file his nomination paper on Friday.
On the other side, BJP mayoral candidate Vinod Chamoli was supported by most of the party senior leaders including ex-CM Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, ex-Speaker Harbans Kapur, ex-Cabinet Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and others. Besides it, two Congress candidates including Manorama Dobriyal Sharma and Vishal Dobhal, who were in the race of Mayor ticket, have filed their nomination paper for Mayor post of Municipal Corporation Dehradun. If Congress party fails to appease them then situation may go worse ahead of poll.
Sources said that party senior leaders who wish to contest Parliamentary election from Tehri lok Sabha seat are not happy with this decision and may create hurdle in Mayor election. If this happens then BJP candidate Vinod Chamoli, who had defeated Dhasman in municipality election in 1990, may give tough fight to him.
Vinod Chamoli is getting support of all senior leaders. Sources said that as BSP announced Eunuch Rajni Rawat for Dehradun Mayor seat then Anil Goel, who was one of the contender in BJP, withdrawn his petition. Thereafter party expressed faith on Incumbent mayor Vinod Chamoli, who along with few supporters and party flag had tried to mingle in ex-CM Maj Gen Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri rally to express solidarity with Anna Hazare demand.
Since then Gen Khanduri was running angry and party national secretary Trivendra Singh Rawat, who is known as close confidant of ex-CM Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, had covertly opposed his candidature but they did not get option once Anil Goel withdrawn his claim.
