Demonetisation still affecting the financial system, general public is worried as the RBI has not issued any fresh directive about transaction charges on ATM. After the decision to demonetise old currency notes of Rs 500 and 1000 denomination, the RBI had asked the banks to waive off the transaction charges they levy on customers if a card holder of other bank uses their ATM network till December 31. This charge- which is different in different banks- is levied when the customer had used his debit card more than five times on the ATMs of other banks. The senior bank officers posted here opined that in the absence of any directive the banks are free to levy charges. The Deputy Zonal Manager of Dena Bank, Keshav Ram said that the banks at present are offering sops to customers to switch to the plastic money. He however added that the issue of transaction charges is taken at top level of bank.
