'RBI not providing sufficient cash': Bank staff to protest today

The simmering discontent among the bank employees working tirelessly ever since the Narendra Modi government took the sudden decision of demonetisation on November 08 has now intensified. The Uttaranchal Bank Employees Union (UBEU) has decided to hold a demonstration at Astley Hall Branch of Punjab National Bank (PNB) on Wednesday. The agitation would be held after 5 pm. The ire of the bank employees is particularly directed towards the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which according to them has failed to provide sufficient cash to the banks.  The general secretary of the UBEU, Jagmohan Mehendirata said that the claim of the RBI that it has provided sufficient cash to the banks is false and it is an open fact that all banks of the country are grappling with cash shortage. In India there are 220000 ATMs but most of these machines are not working due to cash crunch. He said that when the RBI has set up an upper limit of Rs 24000 on withdrawals then it should also provide sufficient cash to the banks. Mehendirata said that the bank employees are working for up to 12 hours a day but even then they are being abused by the people and they are not provided enough security. He further claimed that the employees are not provided with any overtime by many banks.

The bank employee leader claimed that the RBI has provided more cash to the private banks than to the nationalized banks due to which many working in these banks have got engaged in unscrupulous practice of converting black money to white one.

He further claimed that 99 percent of the corrupt practices are being done by the private banks workers but the whole community of bank employees is getting defamed by their action. Mehendirata said that the RBI should provide daily status of cash transferred by it to the banks. He said that the government should also disclose the names of the bank employees who fraudulently provided new currency notes. The bank employees would hold demonstrations in state capitals on Wednesday.
