Rawat, other Cong leaders' phones being tapped, alleges Kishore Upadhyay

The fate of Harish Rawat Government hanging fire, Pradesh Congress chief Kishore Upadhyay has fired a fresh salvo, alleging that  the Chief Minister’s and his phones  were being tapped  at the  behest of  the Narendra Modi Government.

“Hell-bent  on destabilising the democratically elected government in the State, BJP is out to unleash riots before 28 March-the day the Assembly is slated to see the floor  test of the State Government. I also apprehend that the saffron camp would instigate large-scale violence  on the day in and outside the Assembly to fulfill its sinister design,” he said while   addressing a press conference in Haridwar on Monday.

Slamming  Congress rebels Vijay Bahuguna and ex-Cabinet Minister Harak Singh Rawat for what he dubbed as back-stabbing,  the PCC chief said, “The party high command made Bahuguna MP twice. He was made the CM too despite the fact that he lacked experiences to adorn the chair,” he said.

Tearing further into him, he said he had let down the legacy of secularism personified  by his  father for a handful of silvers. “He  has done a great disservice to the memory of his father by allowing himself to be used as  a pawn in the  saffron brigade’s  sweepstakes,” he said, adding that Bahuguna was intent  on triggering  division of the  State on the Garhwal—Kumaon lines.

However, Upadhyay  sounded a  bit wary while criticising Harak Singh Rawat. “Despite what has happened, we are still ready to take the rebels into the  Congress folds if they snap ties with the  saffronites,” he said. Exuding confidence  of the survival of the CM’s Government,  he said  that the CM would surely win  the floor test  on  March 28.
