Uttarakhand’s first cyber crime police station was inaugurated in Dehradun on Wednesday by Chief Minister Harish Rawat. Speaking on the occasion he said, “Uttarakhand has become one of the few Indian States with a cyber crime police station. Funds would not be a constraint for the State police to enhance skills for investigating cyber crimes. Though the Central Government has curtailed budgetary allocation to Uttarakhand, we will take all possible measures for police modernization.”

Rawat also released a State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) newsletter in the presence of Home Minister Pritam Singh, Rajpur Road MlA Rajkumar, DGP BS Sidhu, DGP (Vigilance) SK Bhagat, Principal Secretary MH Khan and others.

Sidhu said that 32 posts had been created for cyber crime police station and 23 police officers and police personnel - five Sub-Inspectors, six head-constables and 12 constables have been deputed in the police station. To prevent cyber crimes, the state government had issued notification for establishment of cyber crimes police station under IT Act 2000 and IT Act 2008 (amended) on January 21, 2015, he said.

Cases related to online frauds, ATM frauds, credit card frauds, objectionable photographs or videos, comments on social media which may lead to communal tension among others are on the rise and such cases will be registered in the cyber crime police station, he said.
