The seed requirement of the State for the next two to three years should be accounted for. Areas should be developed for cultivation of ginger in Kotabagh and Pauri. Chief Minister Harish Rawat gave these instructions while holding a meeting with the National Seeds Corporation at the Bijapur Guest House late on Friday evening.

The CM said that all the specialist institutions working in the State should work in coordination in order to develop high quality seeds in the State.

Rawat said that ginger is cultivated at the private level in various parts of the State. The Horticulture department should ensure its involvement in this activity. Plans should also be drafted feor marketing of malta and lemon. The CM said that Government efforts have resulted in an increase in the demand for Mandua (finger millet) but the expected rise in its production has not yet been achieved. Areas under Mandua cultivation should be increased for achieving the desired rise in its production, he stressed.

In order to achieve this, a policy should be adopted to encourage women's self help groups. Mandua mills and threshers should be facilitated, said the CM. The fruits, vegetables and milk produced in the State can be marketed under 'Safal'. Plans should also be drafted for apiculture and curry leaves cultivation in addition to which attention should also be paid to the mustard cultivation to prevent shortage of flowers for the honey bees.
