Ex-IAS Surendra Singh Rawat has been appointed as State Information Commissioner (SIC) Uttarakhand by the State Government on Wednesday. He has served the State as secretary to Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna since September 2011 to June 2013. He would be fifth SIC in the state.

During his tenure as Secretary to CM, Chief Minister Discretionary Fund (CMDF) was disbursed among the beneficiary on time. He had run campaign against the district administrations, which had failed to disburse the sanction money under CMDF since inception of Uttarakhand. Due to his consistent efforts around Rs 7 crore, which were lying in districts’ treasury and hospitals as unused, were re-deposited into CMDF and all pending files related to CMDF were cleared.

Besides, he had made mandatory to the hospitals to return the CMDF in case it has not been used. Due to this district administrations were made accountable in case of delay in disbursal of CMDF.
