People of landslide-hit Kharkhet village of Almora’s Bhaisiyachhana block have demanded their early rehabilitation. More so, keeping in view danger of further damage to their lives and property due to landsides as many as eight families have already been shifted by the local administration Almora to some makeshift accommodation in safer places as the officials concerned informed.
Apart from damage to houses, road connectivity to the said village from other parts of the district has also been ruined in this devastation. Since agriculture is the mainstay of the economy of this landslide-struck Kharkhet village, therefore damage to the agricultural land due to the landslides has come as a major cause of concern for the beleaguered villagers.
The old hand in Kumaon affairs are of the view that given the damage to properties and cultivable land, it won’t be so easy for the local administration or the Government to rehabilitate as many as 42 families to safer places.
However, the Almora district administration has assured that the affected families need not to be worried as efforts are on to rehabilitate them.
The proposals in regard to the rehabilitation of 42 families of the Kharkhet village have already been sent to the Government, said Akshyat Gupta, District Magistrate, Almora. Besides, keeping in view huge damage to the houses, agricultural land and road that this Kharkhet village has suffered, we have also discussed the rehabilitation issue of the affected families with the gram pradhan of this village, informed the officials concerned of the district administration Almora.
As an alternative we are planning to rehabilitate the 42 affected families at Buradhar village. More so, forest land has also been identified in this regard and we are waiting for the land clearance from the Government, further said the Almora district Magistrate, adding once the forest land clearance is granted, the families will be rehabilitated accordingly to this identified place. Therefore, the villagers need not to be worried.
Meanwhile, in a bid to provide prompt relief to the affected families, the District Magistrate has also said that all the basic services particularly drinking water services must be restored. He has asked the Jal Nigam to improve the water supply line as early as possible so that drinking water supply to the village could be restored.
