Rash driving and other traffic violations coupled with encroachments have turned the roads Kashipur dangerous for road users and pedestrians. Rash driving and overspeeding by two-wheeler users is among the major factors responsible for road accidents which have become a feature of routine life in this city.
While the authorities claim to be acting against such vehicle users, they also point out that the parents must also ensure that their young sons do not indulge in reckless riding and other traffic violations which endanger not only their own lives but also the lives of other road users.
A considerable proportion of the road accidents in Kashipur involve teenagers aged between 14 to 17 years. There have been many accidents which were caused by teenagers riding rashly or trying to execute stunts to ‘impress’ onlookers and their female friends. Though many traffic violation are committed by underage vehicle users while coming from or going to school, the school authorities have remained apathetic to this issue.
When this correspondent asked the principals of various schools on this issue, they refused to even comment on it though off the record they stated that the police was responsible for enforcing traffic regulations and acting against underage vehicle users.
Kashipur police circle officer Prakash Chand Arya said that the police is making consistent efforts to curtail overspeeding and other traffic violations in the city. However, officials concerned also point out that parents are morally responsible for ensuring that their wards do not indulge in such dangerous behaviour instead of simply meeting their demands for motorcycles without imposing any restrictions and then blaming the authorities and others for rising accidents in the city.
