An inmate of district jail located in Roshnabad escaped from the police custody while being taken back from the district hospital to the jail on Friday. He was taken up to the hospital for medical checkup, police said. However, he was rearrested after about two hours from Jagjeetpur area of the district. The name of the convict serving life- term for rape who made the escape bid on Friday is Sanjay Singh (34) resident of Tehri Garhwal. He is a terminated sepoy of Garhwal Rifles, police sources said.
This is significantly the third such escapades attempted by the jail inmates in recent times. Of the three, two are still fugitives. Observers say such daring attempts could not have been made but for the nexus between the convicts and a section of the jail officials. Singh reportedly jumped off the tempo he was on near Valmiki Chowk around noon on Friday. He was rearrested from the Jagjeetpur area of the district, it is learnt.
