The president of the federation of Dehradun City bus service, Vijay Vardhan Dandariyal has alleged that there is rampant violation of norms in the transport department as it has granted the Maxi cab status to the Vikram and Tempos.
He claimed that the State Government in its gazette notification on September 28, 2013 has defined the Maxi cab as a vehicle of three wheels which should have more than six but less than 12 seats for passengers apart from driver and which can be hired.
Dandariyal said that in response to a Right to Information (RTI) query, the Regional Transport Office of Dehradun on December 28, 2015 confirmed that the three wheeled Tempo and Vikrams are registered in the office under the category of Maxi cabs. These vehicles are allowed to take seven passengers apart from driver (7+1).
The president of Federation said that the episode reeks of corruption as there are 787 Vikrams in the city of Dehradun and it is apparent that the transport department has imparted favor to these vehicles against the norms. He demanded a high level inquiry in the episode. “We demand that an inquiry either by Vigilance or CBI should be ordered in the case as it is an open and shut case of corruption. The permits of the Vikrams should also be cancelled.’’
